About Me

I've always tried to feed my family a healthy diet.  In the last few years and with the help of my good friend, Google, I've been able to read and find lots of new and interesting information. I am also blessed to have a group of great ladies with similar interests that meet and share ideas, information and who inspire me.  Thanks FFG!  It's been a grand, learning adventure. I had no idea the learning curve involved in this one but I'm loving the journey!

This blog started as a place I could collect the recipes I found on the web so I could find them again. It's basically my personal filing system for recipes and health/food related information I want to access again.  When someone would ask for a recipe it was just easier to give them my blog address, which opened my files up to the public.  I led a discussion on healthy fats and thus the "Skinny on Fats" was born.  I'm sure as my interests change and grow I will add more posts and pages.

I've also included a section under "Recipes" that says 'A Return to Tradition'. The posts under that heading are ways of preparing and storing food that have been lost to modern technology and convenience, but that have great benefit to us today.

You are welcome to browse my 'files', to post  a comment or question, just please know this blog is entirely ideas and things that interest me, it is not meant as medical or nutritional advice.

This is a journey and I'm just getting started, feel free to come along for the ride.

UPDATE 2017:  Going through my blog to update, edit and read this and thought "The title says 'About Me' and then I didn't say much at all about me at all." So here you go.

I grew up in a tiny Idaho town, as in I was the entire top 10% of my class.  I was raised with chickens, pigs, and cows which provided our meat, milk and eggs. I married a handsome artist who loves to hunt, I wasn't too thrilled with that idea at first but now I'm ever so grateful for meat from animals that eat what God meant them to eat.  We have 5 beautiful children who are now adding to our family.  I adore chocolate and my one sugar splurge is really rich, really dark chocolate. I've been blessed to stay at home with our children.  I really enjoy cooking, especially tweaking recipes to fit our tastes.  I also love a clean, fluffy novel where the heroine gets the guy and everyone rides off into the sunset.  I love perennial waterwise plants but I'm not great at growing food. I have 4 sisters and  they laugh at my jokes so I might even be funny. ;-)

And there you go!  Please leave a comment to let me know you've been here and to say hello.
